A cosmetic surgeon in Beverly Hills may have accidentally found an effective treatment for baldness.
What’s the miracle cure? …Botox®!
Scientists have already determined that Botox Cosmetic, or botulinum toxin type A, can be used to treat headaches, so Dr. Simon Ourian recommended the treatment for his mother in law, whose chemotherapy resulted in migraines.
The surgeon was surprised to see that the treatment also seemed to help her hair grow back.
Dr. Ourian, aware of the insecurities hair loss can evoke, tried mixing vitamins with the Botox to make the treatment more effective.
The theory is that the relaxant allows nutrients into shrunk follicles by dilating the blood vessels.
During the past three years there have been no shortage of male or female volunteers, and Dr. Ourian says it’s the safest and most effective treatment he’s seen.
Before such a treatment can be widely accepted, it will need to undergo formal clinical trials. Until then, this use of Botox is strictly “off-label” and not approved by the FDA.
