A plastic surgery clinic in The Hague has been closed for hygiene violations after as many 80 complaints were made to local health inspectors. The hygiene problems reportedly stem from unsterilized medical equipment that later led to wound infections – as well as incompetently performed breast surgeries.
A plastic surgery clinic in Amsterdam was promptly shut down in late June after a barrage of complaints that cited major hygiene problems.
The confirmed details about CityKliniek, a body contouring facility in the city of Den Haag, are still pretty sketchy here in the States.
But foreign reports indicate that the Dutch Association for Plastic Surgery submitted as many as 80 complaints to local health inspectors. The inspectors then saw to it that the facility ceased all operation and was closed down.
The hygiene problems reportedly stem from unsterilized medical equipment that later led to wound infections – as well as incompetently performed breast surgeries.
No fatalities have been reported, but among other unsuitable conditions, the clinic’s operating room was dangerously close to a toilet. At the time of the facility’s complaints and closing, CityKliniek was being run by a gynecologist with plastic surgery credentials that are now regarded as dubious.
One report said that patients were drawn to the clinic in the first place because of its low prices.
Dutch police and officials are currently trying to decide if any of the clinic’s patients can take legal action.
This story underscores once again that you get what you pay for when it comes to plastic surgery. Make sure you do your homework.
