Vanessa Hudgens, star of High School Musical and Bandslam, wants to portray the late Janis Joplin in the upcoming buzzed about biopic.
Bandslam beauty Vanessa Hudgens says she wants to play music legend Janis Joplin in the upcoming buzzed about biopic — a desire spawned while the star was filming her most recent flick Beastly.
“In Beastly, there’s a Halloween party, and it’s kind of a high school Halloween party. All the girls are dressed up as sluts, and my character comes in as Janis Joplin,” she told MTV News. Apparently once the scene wrapped, Vanessa was smitten with the troubled icon.
“I would not stop listening to her music [after that], and I think she’s so incredible,” she said. “I know I don’t look much like her, but you can always hope, right?”
Unfortunately for the High School Musical star, 500 Days of Summer’s Zooey Deschanel got the gig.
Which is probably a good thing, because it would have taken a lot of work to make Hudgens look anything like Joplin who, while known for her musical genius, was considered far from glamorous.
Vanessa, on the other hand, is a classic beauty — and her features are all natural, something to be lauded while her Hollywood homegirls are going under the knife.
“I guess I’m not one for peer pressure,” Hudgens said coyly in a recent interview. Sadly, the same can’t be said for teen queens like Ashley Tisdale, Hillary Duff, and half the cast of The Hills, all of whom have had at least some minor body modifications, from oversized dental veneers to noticeable nose jobs and bulging breast implants.
So, while fans won’t be cheering for Vanessa’s turn as one of the most famous women in rock music history, she will undoubtedly take another piece of their hearts with her next on screen appearance.
