Some patients who are in the market for a facelift or tummy tuck can get them without an operation.
A company called Sciton has announced the release of SkinTyte, a laser skin tightening treatment designed to firm the face or abdomen without need for invasive surgery.
It’s said to not only be comfortable but quick, taking an average 45 minutes per procedure. The new system is intended for patients who want moderate skin improvement without having to go under the knife.
During the SkinTyte operation, a surgeon applies a gentle, pulsing laser to sagging skin on the belly, neck or jowls. The rapid energy heats the collagen in these areas. The heat is designed to coagulate and contract the collagen, which tightens the skin again. At the same time, a thermo-electric cooler, built into the system, keeps the skin surface cool and prevents discomfort and heat injury.
New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Zubowski, recently seen on the reality show Real Housewives of New Jersey, endorses SkinTyte and now makes it available through his office. He said it not only rebuilds collagen during the operation, but allows the skin to keep creating it afterward, which adds firmness later on.
According to Sciton company literature, SkinTyte received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration in 2007. A number of board certified plastic surgeons now off the procedure.
