I too have MEME Polyurathane implants that are 25 years old. I always thought they were Saline. And several months ago I started having severe pain in my left breast, tenderness, even my sternum and rib cage hurts. When I went to a plastic surgeon here (this is not the area I had them initially done) and it turns our this new Dr. knows the doctor that put in my implants 25 years ago and when I described what the implant looked like that is when I was shocked that they were MEME Polyurathane with Silicone. I have never had any problems, encapsulations … nothing, until now. He informed me that I needed an MRI before he can do anything. I have done research in the last couple of days on this implant. It also mentioned that there is some detactable chemical or something that could be found in a urine test.
I have suffered from migraine/vascular headaches since my 20′s and have taking pain medication all my life off and on for them. Quite a few months ago my urine had a really strong odor (almost like when men eat Asparagus it has a very strong smell). I drink tons of water, so the color of my urine is very light, except for the odor. I contributed that to the fact that I’ve taken Fioricet w/Codeine for such a long time, that maybe that is what was causing that problem. Now I really believe it is due the the implant leaking. I am in so much pain, even my sternum and now both sides of my rib cage are extremely sore to the touch. I cannot sleep more than a couple of hours at a time and I cannot lie flat on my back. I have to prop pillows behind my back because it hurts to breath. I’m schedudled for an MRI as soon as I get an appointment. I just saw the surgeon this past Thursday afternoon (7/21/11). Should I ask him to order a urine test as well? More than anything I am scared to death. Any advice, input would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Livia Moffa
