Botox sales could produce up to one billion dollars per year for drug company Allergan.
Drug company Allergan may experience a billion dollar boost – by selling Botox to cure migraine headaches.
According to financial analysts, Botox already brings Allergan millions through its off-label use as a migraine treatment. The product is currently being tested in clinical trials on patients who suffer from chronic headaches. Many doctors believe that periodic Botox injections can prevent pain signals from reaching the brain.
Allergan will soon submit medical study results to federal regulators to show if Botox is effective against migraines. Sources say the results might lead some insurers to pay for the treatment.
Analyst Peter Bye of Jefferies & Co. notes that the use of Botox as a treatment for migraines could boost Allergan’s annual product sales by up to 75 percent – which could translate into annual revenue of more than a billion dollars.
