Kellogg Foundation raises $50,000 despite recession.
A generous grant will buy reconstructive plastic surgery for 200 children in Central and South America.
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation recently gave $50,000 to Interplast, a new nonprofit organization that provides free plastic surgery to needy children worldwide. This money will be used to cover medical expenses for youth in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Peru.
The grant will go toward surgeries for young burn injury victims and children with cleft palates.
Despite the current recession, the Interplast agency has managed to increase its donation revenue more than 20 percent, from $3.5 million in fiscal year 2008, to $4.4 million in 2009. These funds cover the cost of sending plastic surgeons on long distance trips – plus special training and setting up surgical outreach centers in foreign lands.
