Liposuction tools may be safer for some fat grafting instead of the commonly used syringe, according to a new study from the Plastic Surgery Research Council.
A recent annual meeting of the Plastic Surgery Research Council included findings about the safety of some fat grafting procedures. The syringe is the most commonly used tool in fat grafting. But, according to one study, liposuction devices are faster and more gentle.
Dr. Kamran Khoobehi, a researcher from Louisiana State University, did a comparison test between a handheld syringe and a liposuction device for fat aspiration. He found that in fat grafting, a liposuction machine produces less negative pressure on fat tissue than a syringe. This means fewer fat cells are destroyed during the withdrawal process, and there’s also a lessened risk of tissue trauma.
Dr. Khoobehi also found that the liposuction method withdraws fat three times faster than a syringe and resulted in less bruising.
He said that by his findings, a liposuction machine allows a surgeon to perform fat grafting with results that are less damaging and more aesthetically pleasing. Video plays below.
