Men More Frequently Seeking Plastic Surgery
An article on Men’sFitness.com reveals that more and more men are seeking cosmetic surgery to fix their physical flaws. It’s not just male models and actors anymore, but regular everyday Joes, filling waiting rooms of plastic surgeons to help them remove unwanted love-handles and bulges that they can’t rid themselves of, no matter how hard they work out.
Dr. Richard A. D’Amico, the past-president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons states:
“Surgery goes hand in hand with the rising trend of improving health and fitness. People are taking better care of themselves and want to look as good as they feel.
He goes on to state that:
“The old myth about plastic surgery was that it was a lazy-person’s substitute for diet and exercise. Nothing could be further from the truth. The best use of plastic surgery is for it to be part of a healthy lifestyle that is lifelong.”
While liposuction continues to be the most sought after procedure by men, breast reduction is not an uncommon procedure, in fact it ranks fifth.
Turns out men can suffer from gynecomastia and it is most prominent in men who lift weights heavily and use supplementation since these tend to interact with the body’s hormones.
Though men are in the minority of those choosing cosmetic surgery to help where genetics can’t, they are actually better candidates for cosmetic surgery, especially surgeries like liposuction and other contouring procedures.
Why you ask? Because their fat tends to be more localized and tends to get less stretched by things, such as pregnancy. So, experts say men can expect better results.
