Plastic Surgery Addiction Becoming More Common?

Plastic surgery addiction can lead to an obsessive desire to look like someone else. Case in point: A British woman who shelled out more than $360,000 to look like Queen Nefertiti.

plastic surgery to look like queen nefertitiFrom clothing trends to hairstyles some people try hard to look like their favorite celebrities, but just how far is too far when it comes to changing your appearance? A tummy tuck here, a nose job there aren’t far out of the norm. But, some people opt for more extreme procedures…such as having multiple plastic surgeries to achieve the look of a long-dead Egyptian queen.

49-year-old Nileen Namita has spent more than 20 years, and $360,000 dollars, transforming her once average features into that of legendary Queen Nefertiti. After multiple procedures Nileen bears no resemblance to her former self.

Other plastic surgery eccentrics include the infamous Cat Lady, Jocelyn Wildenstein, a New York socialite; 50 year old Sarah Burge, who has had more than 100 procedures in her quest to look like Barbie; and fellow Brit Janet Cunliffe who has gone under the knife several times to look more like her daughter Jane.

Psychologist Dr. Trish Henrie noted that people who become addicted to plastic surgery often suffer from body dysmorphic disorder, a condition that causes them to fixate obsessively on their appearance. Body dysmorphia can be addressed through therapy that focuses on teaching the patient to love themselves from the inside out.
