Plastic surgery recovery time, swelling and pain can be minimized with hilotherapy. Watch this week’s Plastic Surgery News to find out more.
Ever heard of hilotherapy? If you’re a European athlete prone to injuries, you may already know about it. It’s a healing system that circulates cold water through adaptable cuffs that can fit most parts of the body – reducing swelling. It can also be used for migraine headache relief.
Hospitals and athletic leagues in England and Germany frequently use hilotherapy to help athletes minimize swelling after an injury. But now, more and more plastic surgeons in the United Kingdom are looking to hilotherapy as a way of speeding up recovery for post-surgery patients.
Hilotherapy is better than traditional ice packs for patients who undergo a facelift or eyelid surgery because, unlike ice, users can adjust the temperature of the hilotherapy treatment for different physical needs, like minimizing bruising or swelling or controlling pain. Video plays below.
