How are breast implants used?
Augmentation mammoplasty, or breast augmentation, is typically performed to enlarge small, underdeveloped breasts or breasts that have decreased in size after a woman has had children. Breast augmentation is accomplished by surgically inserting an implant behind each breast. This can be either over or under the pectoralis muscle.
What is important to know is although there are many different types of breast implants the result and patient outcome has much more to do with the way the implant is used. There is no perfect breast implant. Make sure to do your homework and research who is going to educate you and perform your breast surgery. Always go a a board certified plastic surgeon and make sure that surgeon has proven expertise in breast implant surgery.
