Britney Spears fans walk out on lip-synced performance, and singer John Mayer had no sympathy for her disappointed fans.
Don’t say she wasn’t warned. Prior to Britney Spears’ Circus Tour coming to town, Virginia Judge, the Minister for Fair Trading for New South Wales made it public that Spears lip-syncs her concerts and said fans had a right to know. “It is Britney’s ‘prerogative’ to lip-sync, and it is my job to make sure consumers know what they are paying for up front,” Judge said in a statement issued by the Australian government.
Despite the disclaimer Spears’ Australian dates still sold out. But reports from the concert included a walkout in Perth, and several other fans and critics calling the show “boring,” according to the Daily Telegraph. Spears’ promoters told the paper that Spears was aware of the problems. “Britney is aware of all this and she’s extremely upset by it.”
Fellow American artist and Twitterhound John Mayer–who was down under promoting his new album–says fans should have known better. He posted on his account, “If you’re shocked that Britney was lip-synching at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you.”
But, that’s not all fans say isn’t real about Spears. The pop star has been plagued by plastic surgery rumors, including allegations of boob jobs, trout pout and even liposuction. The UK Sun reported that Spears was seen leaving a clinic in Vegas that does a procedure called “Lipodissolve.”
However, plastic surgeon Dr. Tony Youn says on his blog that the procedure isn’t effective. “Lipodissolve is a trade name for a type of mesotherapy. This is a controversial technique pioneered in Europe some 50 years ago which claims to reduce fat and improve cellulite through dozens (sometimes hundreds) of injections with small needles. To my knowledge, although the technique has been around for a long time, there are no large scale scientific studies which have proven that it actually works.”
Real or fake, Spears’ manager contends the bad publicity was the work of a sole journalist, and that most of the fans enjoyed the show. “It’s unfortunate that one journalist in Perth didn’t enjoy the show last night. Fortunately the other 18,272 fans in attendance did,” Adam Leber posted via Twitter.
