Cameron Diaz: ‘The Box’ Isn’t Pure Fiction

Cameron Diaz says her new movie The Box goes deeper than you think, and gives Parade Magazine her take on the new flick.

box-firstlook-marsden-diazThe Box opens this weekend, and while some dismiss the overtly ominous short-story adaptation, Cameron Diaz says it’s more true to life than you’d think.

The story focuses on a couple who discovers a box on their doorstep with a red button and a note: Every time they push the button, they get a million dollars. However, someone they don’t know will also be killed with the button-push. Diaz says the story is reflective of real life, it’s just that consequences to everyday actions are not always that obvious.

“It’s not a decision that you take lightly, especially when you know the ugly consequences,” Diaz tells Parade Magazine. “We’re all offered little buttons to push every day of our lives. I think the bottom line is, ‘Nothing is for free.’”

The lesson could be applied to today’s young TV and movie stars, who see fame and money before they have ever had to work at it. For her part, Diaz says she is glad she had to struggle to make it.

“I had the good fortune of becoming famous once I had already lived a life, traveled a lot, stood in line, had to ask people to help me, had to find a way to make something work, pay the rent, scrape by,” she told Marie Claire. “I don’t have any problem with being famous. I’ve completely made peace with being recognizable and people wanting to peek into my life in some way.”

Part of that means Diaz has been totally open about having plastic surgery, unlike some stars who hide it. It’s in part due to the fact that her most obvious fix, a nose job, came after a surfing accident broke her nose for the fourth time. “S*** just finds my face — it’s crazy!” she told the magazine.

But, Diaz says more drastic changes are out of the question. “I’d love a bigger butt, more meat on my bones,” she tells the magazine. “I’d love to be more voluptuous. It’s just not my body type.”
