‘Entourage’ Jeremy Piven: Soy Milk Gave Me Man-Boobs!

Entourage star Jeremy Piven says he had to give up his 12-cup a day habit.

However, the playwright for the show, Speed the Plow, David Mamet expressed doubt in Piven’s diagnosis. “I talked to Jeremy on the phone, and he told me that he discovered that he had a very high level of mercury,” Mamet told the New York Post. “So my understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer.”

Now, Piven is accusing another food of foul play. This time? Soy milk. The nutritionally challenged actor said he had picked up a 12-cup a day habit substituting soy milk in his breakfast cereal.

“I was the guy that dabbled in soy milk, but now I’ve found out soy milk has enough estrogen for me to grow breasts,” Piven told Empire Magazine. “It was a very confusing time.”

However, man boobs, or “moobs” are a real problem among American men. The condition is formally called gynecomastia, and can be caused by genetics, obesity, puberty, some prescription and illegal drugs, and alcohol.  In most cases, man boobs can be dealt with by quitting the medication that caused the condition, strength training or weight loss. Some rare cases may require male breast reduction surgery.

No worries for Entourage fans, though. A rep for the actor says Piven wasn’t serious. “[Piven's comment] was taken from a silly Q&A piece that he did for a U.K. [movie] magazine called Empire…He said he used to drink soy milk, found out it had too much estrogen, made a funny remark about growing breasts and that was it.”
