Cougar Town, a new series on ABC, stars Courteney Cox as a 40-year-old single mom re-entering the dating world. Many real-life women in this situation turn to plastic surgery to up their game. So, has Cox had work done, as well?
Cougar Town stars Courteney Cox as 40-year-old single mother Jules Cobb, who moves to a new community and is challenged to find datable men. Good as she looks, the dating scene is a mystery to her character, since she had previously been a married mom for so long. In an effort to get back in the swing of things, Jules pairs up with younger friend Ellie Torres (Christa Miller-Lawrence), who toils to show her around the market.
The show is a light-hearted ABC sitcom, but it speaks clearly to two growing trends: the “cougar”, a term for older women on the prowl for younger men; and older women choosing to have plastic surgery to be…well, better cougars.
Cox herself has sparked a few rumors about cosmetic surgery, including breast augmentation and lip injections. Pictures show that her breast size looks a little large for her thin frame, but no actual surgery has been confirmed. She has admitted to getting Botox, which she has no problem with.
“A lot of people are overdoing Botox, but I think everything in moderation is fine,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2004. “If it looks natural and it makes you feel better, do it.”
Cox herself is 45 years old, a prime cougar number. But she’s already taken – married to actor David Arquette. Aging takes a harder toll on female celebrities than males in Hollywood, although stars of both genders often surrender to the knife, sooner or later.
“David has a huge problem with it, but I don’t,” Cox once told a reporter. “It’s hard getting older; it’s hard not to be the young one anymore.”
For better or worse, Cougar Town addresses that very issue. The new series airs tonight, September 23 at 9:30 pm ET on ABC.
