Jon Gosselin may have even more money problems in the future – he can’t make appearances on other shows now, even for free.
Jon Gosselin’s future paychecks are hanging in the balance. First, TLC announced that they would reduce his presence on the show that made him a reality TV mega-star, Jon & Kate Plus 8, renaming it simply Kate Plus 8. Now, they are suing him for breach of contract, saying he violated his deal with the reality network by appearing on other shows and giving “unauthorized disclosures” about his family, according to the suit.
TLC says the long-term future of the show remains in question. “The network has been trying privately and patiently for months to get Jon to honor the contract he signed and to comply with his obligations relating to public appearances and statements. Those efforts have been unsuccessful,” said Laurie Goldberg, a representative for the network.
Although Gosselin previously earned $30,000 per appearance to be on other programs, these days he can’t even make an appearance for free. Rumor has it that he has requested the duty of presenter for several awards shows for no fee, and been turned down.
One producer told MSNBC.com, “There was absolutely no interest in having him be a part of our show, no matter how much it was not going to cost us. He thinks he can attach himself to any project that has cameras. I guess he doesn’t realize that the world is not his personal reality show.”
Jon Gosselin not only received a hefty salary for Jon and Kate, but he also got a few other perks. TLC paid for Kate’s post-pregnancy tummy tuck as well as Jon’s hair transplant procedure, both of which were covered extensively on the family’s reality show. The network also paid for the couple to have teeth-whitening procedures.
Kate Plus 8 will cease filming new episodes in November.
