Kate Moss Gets Called Out On ‘Skinny’ Comment

Kate Moss’ comments in a Women’s Wear Daily interview encourage eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia, critics say.

KATE MOSSWhen asked for her “personal motto” in a recent Women’s Wear Daily interview, Kate Moss responded, “There are loads. There’s ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.’ That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.” Not a shocking response, coming from someone who makes their living on being a size zero.

But, UK awareness groups such as Beat and Say No to Size Zero say her comments were inappropriate. Chief Executive for Beat Susan Ringwood told Reuters the phrase is “ one that’s used so prominently and so obviously in connection with pro-anorexic websites,” and that is why it was a poor choice of words. Katie Green, who runs Say No, added that Moss’ comments would likely add to the reported 1.1 million cases of eating disorders already in the UK.

However, a spokeswoman for Moss made a statement saying the model meant no harm by the comments. “This was part of a longer answer Kate gave during a wider ranging interview which has unfortunately been taken out of context and completely misrepresented. For the record, Kate does not support this as a lifestyle choice.”

Another thing Moss doesn’t support as a “lifestyle choice”? Breast implants. In 2008, Moss told Interview magazine that she is wary of the look.

“They are awful,” she told the magazine. “So many of my friends have had them, and they’ve gone wrong. One of my friends … had one that sort of moved up to her shoulder. One was normal, and the other was up by her collarbone. I know only one girl who has good ones. And most of them are so hard you can knock on them like a door. I’m not into them.

“I mean, if I got all saggy, like the sacks some women have after they have children, I’d have them done. I’m not against them, but [not] if you have normal ones, just to have them enlarged for the sake of having big ones.”

Moss has been rumored to have had a nose job, which she has not confirmed, but not breast implants.
