Lil’ Wayne changes his plea to avoid more time behind bars. But, will it help him stay out of the pen?
Lil’ Wayne pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and faces up to a year in prison. The charge stems from a 2007 stop of the rapper’s tour bus in which a .40 caliber handgun was found. Lawyers for Dwayne Carter, Jr. originally disputed the evidence, which included DNA that linked the gun to Carter. The two-year-old case will wrap up this December with sentencing for the rap star.
Lil’ Wayne will also be in court on another charge later this year, stemming from a January 2008 stop of his tour bus at an Arizona border checkpoint. Authorities reportedly found guns, marijuana and cocaine on the bus, and filed felony drug and weapons charges against the rapper. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
If Lil’ Wayne does end up serving time, he may want to look into tattoo removal prior to his stay. Prison culture attaches specific meaning to certain tattoos, and that could get the rap star in big trouble behind bars. Laser tattoo removal can be accomplished in as little as six to eight visits over 18 months, so he still has time. And, his tattoos—simple black ink outlines — are the easiest to remove.
If the rapper ends up behind bars, he will still have plenty to feel good about —“Down” by Jay Sean, which features Lil’ Wayne, is currently the number one pop song in the country, according to Billboard.com.
