Twilight Barbie Causes Fan Frenzy

Twilight Barbie hit Walmart stores — and fans’ Christmas wish lists this weekend. But, not every character is being made into a doll.

twilight-barbie-dollsLooks like Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are immortal after all. The Twilight teens can now live together forever—as Barbie dolls.

The dolls were released November 1 at Walmart stores and Walmart.com, as well as BarbieCollector.com. Although the Edward doll’s face is noticeably different from standard “Ken” dolls—pale and sporting Robert Pattinson’s signature heart-shaped jaw line—the Bella doll appears no different than other Barbies aside from her brunette locks and denim-heavy wardrobe.

The Barbie label has fallen under criticism in the past for reinforcing unrealistic standards of beauty among young girls and tweens. Comparisons have shown that a real-life version of Barbie would be 5 feet 9 inches tall and weigh 110 pounds. Her measurements would be 39/18/33 and she would likely be unable to walk upright.

The doll has also inspired several plastic surgery look alikes, including Sarah Burge of the UK, who to date has spent almost $400,000 on various procedures, and calls herself the “real life Barbie.” Cindy Jackson and Miles Kendall have also pursued plastic surgery hobbies in hopes of looking like the original plastic pair, spending over $100,000 on surgeries.

The Bella and Edward Barbies sell for $25 each.
