Fox apologizes for airing a cartoon that made fun of Jessica Simpson’s weight. Father Joe Simpson defends his daughter, as well.
On the October 11 edition of FOX NFL Sunday, the pre-game show led with animated skit poking fun at Jessica Simpson, but many fans thought it was just mean.
The skit began with an animated version of Marion Barber saying: “Man, I still can’t believe Tony (Romo) dated Jessica Simpson, even AFTER she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!” Flozell Adams is a 6’7”, 340-pound offensive lineman for the Cowboys.
The tight-end Jason Witten responds, “Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!” Then head coach Wade Phillips retorts, “Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!”
Simpson has been the target of fat jokes since a January 2009 appearance at a radio station event in Florida, where she wore a pair of unflattering high-waisted jeans. Since then, she has posed for several magazine covers and started filming a reality show about the definition of beauty in different parts of the world.
FOX issued a semi-apology to Simpson, excluding Burger King – which sponsored the segment – from any liability. “Burger King did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp., approved it before it aired. . .Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended.”
Dad Joe Simpson decided to channel his daughter’s travels in a defense of Jessica. “She’s always scrutinized by the world and [it's great] to watch her go to other countries and see women talk about what is beautiful there,” he told Us at a Beverly Hills Gala for Operation Smile. “We were just in Uganda, and a beauty ambassador [there] knew Jessica’s total story about her weight and blah, blah, blah. [She said] to Jessica that it’s about who you are inside, which is the message of our show.”
Of course, Jessica hasn’t always felt that way. After her divorce from Nick Lachey, Simpson said she had lip injections because she thought people would think it was sexy. “I had that Restylane stuff. It looked fake to me,” she told Glamour Magazine. “I didn’t like that. But it went away in, like, four months. My lips are back to what they were. Thank God!”

Jordasche Bledsoe responded:
I didn’t hear that commentary, but I read about it after it happened and even I thought it was pretty mean. I think we need to be a little more gentle on Jessica because she doesn’t have the brain power to defend herself we all know that. Its like picking on a handicap person.
danny responded:
jordashce bledsoe bet jess has a higher IQ then you’ll ever have. and fox apology is too little too late. she needs to get mean and sue.
trinity responded:
The irony of that skit is that yes jesscia can play better football than the cowboys. Anyone can. Their losers. Tony romo cant remember which down and which quarter of the game they’re in
joseph responded:
Isn’t it funny how some women will go along with the remarks of crude little boys to fit in and look good by slamming other women. thats to you bedsloe jessica is hot she should be the next smokin hot bond girl.
tammi responded:
jordache , when you say she doesn’t have the brainpower to defend herself how rude. she has more class than you’ll ever have. she nows how to play the media just fine. isn’t she making a lot more money than you. whatever she’s doing it’s working. and you are not important enough to even be talked about.
tammi responded:
also bedsloe look in the mirror what do you see fugly. now look at picture of jesscia above what do you see beautiful. you are pretending to defend her but actually purposely slamming her. are you jealous?
