Freckles, age spots, moles, melasma, roseacea,nevi-the combination of sun and aging added to the hormone changes seen with pregnancy or as men and women get older can lead to all sorts of facial skin discolorations. Light based treatments like certain laser resurfacing techniques, chemical peels and microdermabrasion are just a few of the ways abnormal pigment can be addressed. Some topical lightening creams are available and also might be considered for prescription by your skin specialist plastic surgeon. Prevention is best (think sun block everytime you are going out and will experience UV irradiation from the sun). Specific treatments vary according to the exact problem in mind, age of the patient, other medical issues and skin type/baseline coloration. Acceptance too works-Hey I think freckles on a fresh scrubbed face can be very attractive!
