Gene Simmons recently took time between KISS tours to play a lawyer in the new comedy Extract. In recent years, he’s taken time for other interesting non-rocker pursuitssuch as cosmetic surgery.
KISS rocker Gene Simmons appears in the new Mike Judge comedy Extract as shady lawyer Joe Adler. Taking time off between tours, Simmons put aside the demon makeup to don a buttoned up three-piece suit. By his own admission, he looks the part.
“I’m the poster child of why the world hates lawyers (at least, in this movie)” he wrote on his site GeneSimmons.com.
Simmons, 59, isn’t afraid to break free from his rock icon image and at times even make fun of himself. The legendary bassist also made headlines in 2007 when he underwent cosmetic surgery for a new face. Procedures included a face lift focused on his jowls and eyelids, followed by liposuction on his chest.
“I saw Dr. Ryan reach under my skin and massage the muscles of my face,” he told People magazine. “It was like my face was peeled off and slung over my shoulder.”
Simmons not only freely admitted to surgery, but had the procedure taped for an episode of his popular reality TV series Gene Simmons Family Jewels. Other aging male celebrities wouldn’t be so bold. Hollywood cosmetic surgeries among middle-aged men are as common as starving actors, but those who go under the knife tend to stay quiet.
Face lifts, liposuction and rhinoplasty are popular male choices. The cosmetic surgeries are often directed at the forehead, eyelid and neck areas, though men often do use liposuction to help them shed extra pounds. Older men also look to laser surfacing treatments to help eliminate wrinkles and signs of aging skin.
As for Simmons, it remains to be seen whether the lawyer he portrays on the big screen will wear the same fearsome scowl as his stage persona, or perhaps have an affinity for Botox.
