Jim Carrey’s movie A Christmas Carol hit theaters today–the funny-man said past struggles made Scrooge a familiar role.
Audiences will no doubt be thrilled by the ever advancing art of animation in Disney’s release of A Christmas Carol, starring the voice of Jim Carrey, among others.
Carrey says the role was easy for him. Having battled depression in the past made him identify with his character in the movie, Ebenezer Scrooge.
“Everybody loves a good transformational story — somebody who sees the light and finds out what’s important in life. It was wonderful to get to the bottom of a character I’ve seen done a hundred different ways,” Carrey told the UK Mirror.
Carrey didn’t have to do any trimming down for this movie, but in the past when he lost weight for movie roles, he was accused of taking the easy way out, he told USA Today. The actor dropped 25 pounds for his role in Bruce Almighty.
People “were all talking about plastic surgery,” Carrey says. “Work you’re a** off for months, and they turn it into plastic surgery.”
Carrey says he goes running every day and tries to eat right, rather than relying on quick-fix methods of losing weight. “I’ve been the type of person who gets the heaping whatever, and I can still do that, but for the most part I like a small bowl of vegetables. It’s that Japanese approach. Treating it like it’s a ritual,” he says.
However, girlfriend Jenny McCarthy has a different approach. She admits she is a fan of the quick-fix wrinkle killer Botox.
“I love Botox, I absolutely love it,” she told Chicago’s Michigan Avenue Magazine. “I get it minimally, so I can still move my face. But I really do think it’s a savior.” The former Playmate also had breast augmentation in 1993, and then had her implants removed in 1998.
A Christmas Carol opens November 6.
