Kirstie Alley gets a reality show, this time on network A&E. But, the topic remains the same – will the Fat Actress be able to lose weight on her new show?
Gaining and losing weight has been more than a hobby for actress Kirstie Alley – it’s been a career.
Ever since her Cheers days, the actress has had movies here and there, and the occasional sitcom spurt. But, now she is taking reality into her own hands, signing on for a 10-episode order of her own show.
The half-hour program will document Alley’s weight loss struggles, the challenge of producing a feature film, and raising her two daughters, True and Lillie. It may sound a lot like the series Fat Actress that aired on Showtime, where Alley played a character based on herself and called “Kirstie Alley,” but that show was classified as a mockumentary, not reality.
Kirstie Alley got the public involved in her weight struggle as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig, during which time she lost 75 pounds and appeared on Oprah in a bikini to show off her success. However, rumors flew that the star had lipo instead of losing weight the Jenny Craig way.
Over four years after the 2005 run of Fat Actress, Alley gained 85 pounds which she now wants to try to drop during her reality show.
A&E’s Robert Sharenow, senior vice president for nonfiction and alternative programming, said Alley is the kind of star the network likes to team up with. “She is a multifaceted talent who connects with our audience on so many levels,” he added. “Her personal life has been playing out in the media for years, but this will be the first time she’ll be opening up her home to reveal her real life for the cameras.”
The yet-to-be named series is scheduled to air in 2010.
