Matt Damon Says 'Informant' Weight Came Off Naturally

Matt Damon gained 30 pounds for his starring role in The Informant. Rather than shedding the weight through liposuction, Damon did it the hard way.

DAMONMatt Damon plays corporate whistle-blower Mark Whitacre in the new Steven Soderbergh movie The Informant! – and he gained 30 pounds to match the role.

How? The same way the rest of us do – eating all the wrong things, and having a great time doing so. (Certainly more fun than Whitacre, who, in real life, also went to jail for embezzlement.)

“It was very, very fun, probably the funnest time I had working, because I didn’t have to go to the gym after work and I just ate everything I could see,” Damon told reporters at the Venice Film Festival. “I definitely got doughy. I started eating like crazy and drinking dark beer.”

After initially gaining weight for the film, Damon kept it on by pigging out during the shoot. “Between meals on set, I’d eat a No. 1 Value Meal at McDonald’s and then Doritos on top of it. It was absolute heaven,” he said.

Heaven often involves sinful food, that’s true. But, after The Informant wrapped, Damon had to get back to his regular look and lose the weight. In fact, he had to not only lose the weight, but get in shape quickly for his role in the upcoming drama Green Zone.

Some celebrities would use liposuction to trim up their love handles, but Damon did it the hard way – really hard. He took up boxing.

“I figure if you get hit enough times, it will fall off,” he said.

Damon was overweight so briefly, it’s as if it never happened. But he gets kudos for losing the pounds through discipline – and who knows, the boxing may end up paying off for a future movie role.
