Paula Abdul has officially left American Idol, and has had very public offers from both ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance. But, fans still wonder whether age played a part in Abdul’s departure. Was it really about the money, or is Paula being replaced by a younger, prettier panelist?
Paula Abdul leaving American Idol? It’s true! The question is Why? Why the sudden disappearance from the show that revamped her career like nothing else ever could? While rumors have been flying this past week, Paula confirmed via Twitter that she was done with the top-rated singing contest. Immediately the internet was abuzz with conspiracy theories and accusations about her abrupt departure. Was she voted off by her fellow judges? Has the American public had enough of Paula’s occasional gaffes? Or, was last year’s addition of Kara DioGuardi to the panel of critics an early sign that Abdul would not be allowed to age gracefully before the cameras?
The New York Times was the first to set the record straight. According to the Times‘ notorious Page 6, “Paula Abdul had been lobbying for a major pay bump in contract negotiations that had been going on since the spring. These negotiations started when news of Ryan Seacrest’s alleged $45 million dollar deal became public.” But it would seem that these negotiations did not go the way Miss Paula planned according to her tweet: “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon”
Though money is a probable reason for her quick jump off the Idol train, other rumors are circulating about Paula’s appearance. With an intense and sometimes painful beauty regimen, Paula is fighting the war against wrinkles like all of the stars her age. Did her on-camera appearance play a role in her getting the boot?
Dr. Tony Youn noted in his celebrity cosmetic surgery blog, “Paula may have had some work done in the past. I see two major plastic surgery possibilities. First, her nose looks thinner and shorter, possibly due to a rhinoplasty. Second, her eyebrows appear to have that arched ‘Botox Brow’ look.” Many speculate that even though Paula has been a determined fighter against her crow’s feet, her appearance may have been behind her recent resignation.
So, the next question is, who on earth is willing to replace the lovable but loopy Abdul? How about a platinum selling recording artist who was a member of the most successful girl group in history? (No, not The Jonas Brothers.) The Idol cast will be joined by none other than Victoria Beckham, the Spice Girl formerly known as Posh.
But, not for long. In a recent FOX News article, it was reported that “Simon Cowell asked his old pal to join him as a judge. Posh will appear on the show on a one-time deal. Her representatives have explained that she has chosen to do only one episode because she is focusing on her fashion line.”
