Plastic surgery to change a woman’s fingertips allowed her to evade authorities and gain illegal entry into Japan. The crime, which is known as biometric fraud, is said to be a rare catch among criminals.
A Chinese woman who wanted to get back into Japan was able to achieve an illegal entry – thanks to plastic surgery on her fingertips.
Police say 27-year-old Lin Rong had an expired visa in Japan, but managed to trick immigration controls after undergoing surgery to swap out her fingerprints. She reportedly paid around $15,000 to have skin patches taken from both thumbs and all index fingers – and then grafted onto the opposite hand.
It worked so well that Lin wasn’t caught until later, when she was arrested for allegedly faking marriage to a Japanese citizen. During the arrest, police noticed her scarred fingers.
