I am a two-time breast cancer survivor and had bilateral DIEP flap reconstruction in 2006, so I speak as a veteran of the team approach, which I think is the best solution FOR PATIENTS because it reduces the length of the procedure. I had the mastectomies and reconstruction at the same time, so three surgeons worked in concert for 10.5 hours. I don’t know how much longer it would have taken for one surgeon to do all of the work, but the difference would have been several hours, which is never preferable.
