Rhinoplasty and deviated septum

I would to have the procedure done thru the military — is that possible? If not, about how much would a rhinoplasty for a deviated septum cost and how long would I expect to be out of work? I have had problems my whole life with post nasal drip and deviated septum and I do not like to shape of my nose. I think it is time to finally do something about it. I also have issues with allergies but am currently taking prescription Claritin.

    Hi Caroline

Your first step is to see a surgeon who is qualified to do this type of surgery.  Self diagnosis is never a good idea.  There are surgeons in the military who are qualified — you just need a referral.  Or, you may consult a private surgeon outside of the military.

Fees will depend upon the work that needs to be done — and this can only be properly determined with a consultation and complete physical examination.  Once you know the problem, then you can solicit a fee for the surgery.  There is no insurance coverage for cosmetic surgery of the nose (to improve your appearance).  There may be insurance coverage for any work done to improve breathing — but this would require a pre-determination letter sent to your insurance company by your examining surgeon.

    Good luck!
