Dr. Jacobs responded:
Dear Eduardo
Rhinoplasty, a cosmetic operation to improve the appearance of the nose, will permanently change the nose. Thus, anyone contemplating this operation must have the understanding and emotional maturity that it will be a permanent change — there is no going back. Also, since it is the central feature of the face, it will affect one's overall facial appearance — permanently. Youngsters, often in their teens, must have the capability to understand the ramifications of these changes. Skeletal maturity is also important — and girls are often complete in their growth earlier than boys.
For many years, the time for performing this operation was just after high school graduation. This roughly correlates with skeletal maturity for both boys and girls and also insures a certain amount of emotional maturity. It also provides a "new face" when making a "new start" in college — in essence, one need not make excuses for it if it is done during the high school years.
Costs will vary across the country. Since this is elective surgery and there is no rush, I would recommend you consult with at least two to three surgeons. Make sure they have significant experience in this procedure and that they are Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. Choose the surgeon with whom you are most comfortable and confident. The cost, while important, should be among the least of your considerations. Remember, the results of your nasal surgery will be with you for the rest of your life — and long after the fee is forgotten.
Good luck!

Dr. Fournier responded:
The right age for rhinoplasty in women is 17 years old and in men 18 years old. The price is a personal matter after seeing pictures as the front view of the face, two lateral or profile right and left.also a special view to evaluate the contour of the holes ( nostrils) of the nose and the contour of the tip. Also to be evaluated after consultation is the contour of the septum, if airway is impaired.
Dr. Rosenblatt responded:
Age is less important than maturity. You need to have a realistic expectation and be able to deal with surgery. You also should be near your adult height. Girls start 14 – 15 and boys are usually older 17 – 18. The cost varies as to who does it and where you live. Only a consultation with a plastic surgeon can tell you if you are a good candidate. If you are younger than 18, a parent would need to sign the consent with you. Good luck.
