Scott Brown Posed for Cosmo

Scott Brown, Republican senator-elect of Massachusetts, has the military, government work and commercial acting experience in his past. There’s another thing, too.

On January 19, Senator-elect Scott Brown (R-Mass.) took the seat of the late Ted Kennedy in a special election against Democrat Martha Coakley. In the case of Brown, 50, this comes after a career that has included  acting, serving  in the National Guard and as a Town Assessor and then member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

And so, a cursory glance of his resume reveals a well-rounded life, suitable for public political ambitions – perhaps like Kennedy; perhaps like Coakley.

But Ted Kennedy didn’t pose for Cosmopolitan magazine in 1982, landing the title of “America’s Sexiest Man,” did he?

Guess who did?

That’s right, Scott Brown. “I’m not ashamed of my body,” the 22-year-old Brown told the mag in 1982. “I sure work hard enough to keep it in shape. When you go to the beach, you automatically seek out the hard bodies. Why should it be any different in a magazine?”

Or the Senate? Brown has explained that he posed for Cosmopolitan to help pay for law school. He’s older now but still in good shape – known for staying active through long-distance running, bicycling and swimming. It seems fair to attribute Brown’s fine form and youthful looks to his fitness regiman, rather than plastic surgery, and no procedures have been confirmed in his case.

However, the world of politics is no stranger to plastic surgery. Plastic surgeon Dr. Ayman Hakki of Maryland analyzed photos of several well-known politicians and was quoted in the Washington Examiner observing that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton likely has had forehead Botox injections; Vice-President Joe Biden has received hair transplants; and Arnold Schwarzenegger, governor of California and in not-so-bad shape himself, has most probably had a partial face lift. He also speculates that Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota has had fillers in the midface region and Senator Barbara Boxer of California has apparently had an exceptionally well done face lift.

The surgeries seem logical, since some politicians spend more time being seen than other celebrities do, and they want to look good. But in Sen. Scott Brown’s case, genetics, plus his own rigorous fitness, are doing the task for him.
