SNL gives Casey Wilson and Michaela Watkins the boot. Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad have been announced as replacements.
Casey Wilson and Michaela Watkins recently received pink slips from Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels – and Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad have been announced as replacements. Watkins, who’d been on the show since November 2008 and impersonated public figures such as Arianna Huffington, cited no hard feelings. Her future plans are unclear, though Variety reported that Wilson will return to the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe.
“The only explanation I got from him – and he’s not known to say things just to make people feel better – was that he felt deep down that I should have my own show. And I agreed,” Watkins told Entertainment Weekly. “SNL was a dream come true for me. It was a fantastic year. I don’t have any regrets.”
If these two were talented enough to reach Saturday Night Live, they can make it anywhere. But, no matter where they go, former SNL actresses are always remembered for their days on the “Not Ready for Primetime” team. SNL alum Cheri Oteri hasn’t stopped working or being funny, but she did take recent flak on MakeMeHeal.com for an apparent plastic surgery that looked funny.
The story, which includes before and after pics, speculated that Oteri, who turns 47 this month, had a face lift, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, chin implant and Botox injection to prevent wrinkles. Such procedures are common among celebrities her age, but some feel the results look unnatural and overly apparent.
Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and many might say that Oteri looks better than ever. In either case, her rumored surgeries have not hurt her career. Cheri plays librarian Helen Klench on the new Fox animated series Sit Down, Shut Up, which returns this Sunday, September 12th.
As for whether Wilson and Watkins will go under the knife, that remains to be seen. In the meantime, fans look forward to seeing more of these funny ladies on the small screen soon.
