Next in the news, we know by now what microdermabrasion can do for the skin. But, a new study at the University of Michigan shows that to get the best results, the rougher, the better.

Researchers performed microdermabrasion on 40 volunteers. They found that when they used tools with a course grit, the skin samples were visibly improved over samples rubbed with a medium grit.

A dermatology doctor at the university explained that the more abrasive treatment on the skin helped generate more collagen, or skin protein. This, he said, can improve the appearance of a person’s skin.

He also said that microdermabrasion can’t quite replace laser resurfacing, which is a stronger technique. But, that technique also requires a long healing period.

Aggressive microdermabrasion, on the other hand, requires less healing and can produce worthy results. Video plays below.
