After much speculation Howard Stern confirmed on his radio show Monday that Fox is interested in hiring the Sirius shock jock to replace Simon Cowell on American Idol. Stern, who is known for his for his sharp tongue and merciless humor, would seem to be a perfect fit to take the place of Cowell, who has gained a following as the judge that everyone loves to hate, and is set to leave the show at the end of this season.

Stern insisted during his radio talk show that he is the right man for the job.

“If I do say so myself, I can’t imagine anyone else but me replacing [Cowell],” Stern said. “I mean, I don’t know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who’s not afraid to speak their mind?”

Stern’s five-year, $500 million contract with Sirius expires at the end of the year making it the perfect opportunity for him to change paths and take over as the fourth Idol judge. But, will moving from radio to television make the media mogul more image conscious?

Though Stern is known for his voice and not his looks, he confessed to having a nose job to shave down the bump on his nose, as well as liposuction to get rid of his double chin, in 2006. But, he’s hardly as vain as Cowell, who is not only famous for flaunting his pecs in too-tight tees, but has also admitted to being fan of Botox.

“To me, Botox is no more unusual than toothpaste,” Cowell told People magazine. “It works, you do it once a year – who cares?”

In fact, Cowell is so much in support of the wrinkle relaxer that he reportedly counseled celebrity chef and fellow bad-boy Brit Gordon Ramsay to get Botox injections in his chin.

Whether the curmugeonly Cowell has any beauty advice for Stern remains to be seen, as Idol fans eagerly await the news of who will fill the shoes of reality TV’s most notorious critic.

Heidi Montag probably can’t blame her mother for her reaction when Heidi paid a visit after undergoing ten cosmetic procedures in one day. Montag recently told People magazine that her mother, who lives in Crested Butte, Colorado, was anything but pleased at her daughter’s surgical results.

“She was looking at me almost like a zoo animal,” Montag said. “It wasn’t like I was her daughter anymore. She was looking at me like I was a circus freak.”

PopOnThePop.com reminded readers of the inventory in a related story. Montag underwent neck liposuction, breast augmentation revision, buttock augmentation, a mini-brow lift, a rhinoplasty revision, Botox injections and liposuction on her waist, hips and thighs.

The 23-year-old, who also had plastic surgery in 2007, has said she wants this cosmetic makeover in order to excel in the world of music. She apparently thinks more than a dozen surgeries before age 25 will do the trick. But during the recent family visit, Montag said, her mother pointed out “how sad it is that my confidence is gone because of the music industry I’m trying to get into.”

It’s hard to say what Heidi Montag has lost in her reach for musical fame. One thing she isn’t short on is plastic – and in the end, she may become more famous for that than anything else.

TLC reality darling Kat Von D of L.A. Ink loves to show off her ink. So many thought she’d be the last girl to succumb to a plastic surgery makeover. After all, being covered in ink isn’t exactly the Hollywood look Heidi Montag of The Hills was trying so hard to achieve when she got her 10 procedures last November.

However, recent pictures of 27-year-old Kat Von D indicate she may have indulged in some of the same procedures as Montag, including a brow lift and rhinoplasty. NewBeauty.com classifies the brow lift as atypical for her age since brow lifts are typically done to correct the affects of gravity and aging on the eyes: “Heidi’s board-certified plastic surgeon also performed several procedures that aren’t typical for 23-year-olds: a mini browlift, Botox, and fat injections in the nasolabial folds (as well as the lips and cheeks).”

Of course DListed.com was a little more blunt about Kat’s surgery, writing, “Kat’s eyebrows look like they fell in love with her hairline at first sight and are heading north to be with it.”

Kat Von D hasn’t commented on her new look.

New research suggests that women who want to look years younger may not need to undergo any major plastic surgery — at least not yet.

For now, a simple lip injection may do the trick.

Unilever funded a study of more than 250 women of various ages to figure out what feature most separated older women from younger women. According to lead researcher David Gunn, the women who looked young for their age had something in common: thicker lips.

Noted Gunn, “It is a feature that is strongly genetically determined and relatively easy to measure.”

For beauty reasons alone, lip injections are already a highly sought cosmetic procedure among women. Celebrities with full, plump pouts, such as Angelina Jolie, have cut a public figure many women hope to emulate. The cosmetic surgery industry has responded in kind, making several options available. Lip augmentation is generally performed with injectable fillers such as collagen, silicone or even fat. The first two fillers are readily available but temporary in their effects. Fat injections last longer, but results are less predictable.. And, more rarely, there is the option of a permanent surgical implant that, unlike the injectable fillers, does not disappear.

The side effects of these procedures, which are always possible, include scarring or a lumpy and uneven appearance.

And, simply getting bigger lips may not necessarily give the overall youthful appearance women desire. Gunn admitted that women who are elderly – or middle-aged, but with thin lips – may more wisely opt for some facial injections, such as Botox, rather than lip augmentation alone, which “doesn’t counter the impact of a wrinkled face.”

After spending 10 hours under the knife to get 10 different plastic surgery procedures and saying she is “beyond obsessed” with plastic surgery and changing her look, Heidi Montag is changing her tune.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Montag says she doesn’t have a problem with her self-image and that her surgical improvements are just part of her job description. “I’m in a different industry and I have to do things that are going to make me happy at the end of the day,” she said on the show.

“I’m living in my skin, and I look in the mirror and it’s my career and my life, and you only have one. So, I want to take advantage of everything and be the best me, in and out, every way.” But her co-stars disagree.

In 2007, Celebrity-Gossip.net said revenge had motivated her to get a nose job and breast augmentation that took her from an A to C cup. Then in late 2009 she had the 10-procedure megasurgery performed without telling her family or co-stars. The list of improvements included breast revision, nose revision, botox, brow lift, cheek injections, butt augmentation, chin reduction, neck liposuction, ears pinned, and liposuction on waist, hips and thighs.

Hills alum Lo Bosworth says Montag’s behavior is not the norm. “I hope that girls don’t read the article, look at the decisions that Heidi made, and think that’s normal,” she told People.com.  “She was quoted as saying that every celebrity in Hollywood has these procedures done, every day… and that’s just not true. I would never want young girls to read that and think it’s the standard that they need to be measured by.”

Audrina Patridge, who previously told People she didn’t care what Montag did, agreed that her actions did send the wrong message to The Hills’ teen viewership. “I just hope that the girls who look up to us and watch us don’t look at what Heidi did as the only way to be successful and beautiful.”

But no matter what her co-stars say, the not-obsessed Heidi is determined to get more done, telling Extra she is happy with her current size, but wants to go still bigger for the most personal of reasons.  “I like the F. I actually want H for Heidi.”

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that in 2008, more than 160,000 American youth, ages 19 and younger, underwent cosmetic surgery.

This number, which includes procedures such as liposuction, Botox injections, breast augmentation and eyelid surgery, is actually quite a bit lower than the 2007 figure of 205,119. The economic bust of 2008 certainly explains this best. But a story at NaturalNews.com originally cited this data and suggested that 2007 is when plastic surgery really hit a stride among teenaged patients, even children.

Of course, some of these cosmetic procedures are medical in origin, such as when a child needs a reconstructive operation to correct an injury or birth defect. But many of them are purely cosmetic,. The most possible – and most likely – culprit is the influence of celebrity media coverage and reality shows.

“One of the challenges is that there is not a lot of evidence that it improves psychosocial well-being,” Alice Dreger of Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University said to NaturalNews.com. “The goal is admirable, right? Better lives. The question is: Does it work and is it necessary?”

Of course, patients who are younger than 18 can’t undergo plastic surgery without parental consent, but today many parents are saying yes. “Boomer parents may themselves even be undergoing cosmetic surgery and may feel for our children that it’s not such a stretch,” said Donn Chatham, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery president.

Figures for the year 2009 aren’t finalized. But based on statistics, the trend of plastic surgery among minors shows no sign of fading.

Brian Austin Green may have given himself away in a Twitter posting this weekend. The 90210 star and longtime squeeze of Transformers Megan Fox told a fan he was “engaged,” although he didn’t say to whom.

However, Green recently sold his house to move in with Fox after an on-again-off-again romance that ended in 2008 and picked back up in summer 2009, and the couple has been together ever since.

Green has a child with former girlfriend Vanessa Marcil, whom he also came close to marrying, and although he hasn’t named the lucky lady or a date yet, tabloid experts are betting on Fox.

Also putting his money on Fox is Transformers director Michael Bay, who announced in October of 2009 that she would be welcomed back for a third installment of the franchise, despite rumors of the pair being less than friendly with each  other. Fox compared Bay to Hitler and claimed he ran an unsafe set in an interview with Wonderland magazine. Bay wrote the comments off to publicity and said he didn’t take it personally: “her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm,” Bay posted on his Website, adding, “The fact of the matter I still love working with her, and I know we still get along. I even expect more crazy quotes from her on Transformers 3.”

But Bay isn’t the only one weighing in on Fox’s fame. One Beverly Hills plastic surgeon reportedly says that just like her fame has been helped by her crazy quips, her looks have gotten a little help, too.

“Comparing her original photos to images from 2009 show heavily plumped lips, but in particular areas. Her cupids bow has been raised with lip filler and injections have been made along her lip line,” he says.  “Her bottom lip has most certainly been plumped. Her plumper lips, combined with re-shaped brows give her a very clean Jolie look. Megan has also chosen to enhance her breasts with an augmentation, but chose a decent size. Her implants are far more inconspicuous than someone like Pamela Anderson, however they are quite round and sit toward the underarms, clear suggestions of a breast enhancement.”

Is her engagement just another stunt to enhance her image like surgery enhanced her appearance? Only time will tell.

Heidi Montag shocked Hills fans when she emerged this week from weeks in hiding after a plastic surgery operation she had been planning for the past three years, according to People. The reality TV star has always been candid about her desire for more surgery after two procedures in 2007, which she defended, saying she had always felt self-conscious about having a large nose and being flat-chested.

But now, she says her desire for even larger boobs after an increase from 32A to DDD is about obsession. “I am obsessed with plastic surgery and with maintaining my looks,” she tells People in a post-op interview, saying the reason this time around was “to feel better, to feel perfect.”

In November 2009, the 23-year-old went under the knife to have:  a mini brow lift, Botox, nose job revision, fat injections in the cheeks, chin reduction, neck liposuction, ears pinned back, breast augmentation revision, liposuction on waist, hips and thighs, and a buttock augmentation.

Hills cast mate Audrina Patridge didn’t sound impressed by the cadre of improvements to her co-star. “I haven’t seen how she looks, so it’s hard for me to comment on it, but these are her decisions, and as long as Heidi is happy, that’s all that matters,” Patridge told People at an event in Hollywood.

“I think it’s a case of, ‘To each their own,’ but 10 procedures in one day is a little much,” she added.

Patridge has also been the object of speculation over whether or not she has also had breast augmentation surgery.

Who Makes What on The Hills

The cosmetic nip-and-tuck is hardly an exclusive American phenomenon, and a new show demonstrates this by focusing on plastic surgery in Ireland.

Presenter Caroline Morahan and plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Rey will co-host The Cosmetic Surgery Show: What A Load of Botox, set to premiere January 13 on Ireland’s TV3. The show offers glimpses into various cosmetic procedures – liposuction, Botox injections and breast augmentation, among others –as well as in-studio discussions of plastic surgery and public poll information. Morahan is an Irish actress best known for a five-year stint on the fashion show Off the Rails. Rey, a Hollywood surgeon, is a media veteran, having made dozens of appearances on shows including Dr. Phil, The Today Show, The View and Dr. 90210. Ironically, however, Dr. Rey is not board certified in plastic surgery.

The plastic surgery market abroad seems to be well in tune with today’s high American statistics. The United Kingdom alone sports some healthy figures, according to data from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. In 2008, association members performed 34,187 surgeries, a 5 percent increase over 2007. Of that number, a grand majority of these operations were performed on women – and the most popular choice was breast augmentation. Also, from 2007 to 2008, the tummy tuck saw a 30 percent increase in demand among both men and women, though males most often preferred rhinoplasty.

As in America, this rising rate shows no sign of receding. And so any show that delves into the growing trend of plastic surgery will certainly have good odds of having a sizable interested viewership. Whether the show will keep them is the question.
