Tori Spelling and mother Candy have sustained a long-standing family feud. However, reports say that’s come to an end.
Tori Spelling recently told E! News she and mother Candy are reuniting after an extended feud – and that the timing could be a lot worse.
“It’s just a blessing that it happened around the holidays,” she said. “And it just makes me think, ‘Wow, it’s an amazing thing and it happened this year and it’s just the best gift we could get.’ We’re together as a family, and that’s the most important thing. We’re very lucky.”
Candy Spelling posted an open letter on her website in April 2009, expressing a wish to bury their hatchet. Mother and daughter Spelling reportedly patched things up for good later in September, while both women were in the hospital. Candy was having back surgery and Tori was there for stomach problems. Clearly illness made the heart grow fonder, since the stalemate had lasted for years. The struggle included inheritance disputes after the death of television magnate Aaron Spelling, Tori’s father and Candy’s husband. He passed away in 2006, leaving a $500 million dollar estate, yet Tori only reportedly received around $900,000. Of course, major money issues were only a part of it.
The tension between the Spelling women is said to go as far back as Tori’s pre-teenage years, when mother Candy advised, “You’ll be pretty as soon as you get a nose job.” Tori then underwent rhinoplasty at age 16 – probably as soon as she was legally allowed. The family problems that followed have been included in more than one autobiography, including the daughter’s recent sTORI Telling.
Despite decades of strife, the Spellings have decided to shed their mutual resentments and bond – maybe once and for all.
“It’s a wonderful, positive thing,” Tori’s husband Dean McDermott, told E! News. “At the risk of sounding corny, we need more positive stuff in this world, so it’s a good thing.”
