Uma Thurman Found 'Motherhood' Easy

Uma Thurman stars in the new comedy Motherhood – and clearly found it easy to relate to the part, since she has now has two young children.

UMAUma Thurman, real-life mother of two, recently told iVillage.com that her role in the new comedy Motherhood, released October 23, made her remember feelings she didn’t know were universal. She now has two children with ex-husband Ethan Hawke – 11-year-old daughter Maya and 7-year-old son Levon.

The new movie is a lighthearted flick about a mom trying to organize her daughter’s birthday party. Still, Thurman apparently recognized a fair amount of depth in her character.

“[The writer-director] articulated an experience that I felt that I alone had: a time when your children are very young and you find yourself as a person, and find yourself as a mother,” she said. “There is nothing in the world more healing than to realize that it’s a shared experience – the imperfections, the realness of the woman, the sincerity and the genuine love that she infuses mothering with.”

As an actress, Thurman has come into her own most strongly in the past few years, due to her immortal work in the Kill Bill movies. Prior to that, she had memorable turns in Pulp Fiction and the little-seen Mad Dog and Glory.

There is no confirmation of the actress having had plastic surgery, in spite of rumors of a very subtle rhinoplasty. In July 2009, Showbizspy.com quoted her candid remarks about plastic surgery – which suggested she’s never had it, though she is fairly sympathetic to famous women who do.

“I totally understand, in my line of work, if someone feels that they’re not going to be able to do the job they passionately love unless they cut their face,” she said. “I haven’t yet come to that sense of crisis. But I completely understand it – and I don’t judge it. But I do think it’s a pity, because I think women are so beautiful as they get older.”
