Want to make a real difference in your skin and body tone? If you’re like most people, you’re tired of hearing all the usual advice… don’t smoke, use sunscreen and get plenty of sleep. We want real answers that solve our specific skin and body issues.

We talked to Beverly Breshers, owner of Somatique Medical, about what the newest applications in cosmetic medicine can do. “With the new technology available and the right skills involved to perform these procedures, we can slow the aging process down.” Beverly is a licensed master esthetician and has more than 20 years of experience and training in her field. We asked her to go through the best non-surgical procedures on the market today.

Lasers Leading the Way

“I think fractional lasers are leading the way. It’s non-invasive and there’s very little downtime,” explains Breshers. Fractional lasers are used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, skin pigmentation and acne scarring.  If you don’t want the downtime involved with fractional lasers, Intense Pulse Light therapy may be for you. “It works superficially on the skin to help improve the appearance of your pores and some light pigmentation problems. Breshers says the IPL treatment is similar to something like a microdermabrasion, in that it’s a procedure that needs to be repeated in order to achieve optimal results. “The beauty of IPL therapy is it can make the skin look more luminous and bright. It doesn’t compare to Fraxel, but it is a maintenance that’s affordable to most patients and it does a nice job.”

Skin Laxity

As far as skin tightening and lifting, Ultherapy is a top performer. “Every patient that I’ve treated with Ulthereapy certainly sees a change in their skin.”  Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to penetrate the skin and creates new collagen by heating the dermis in specific areas to shrink, and tighten the skin. Ultherapy can be used to target specific problem areas on a patient, such as slight sagging around the jawline, neck, forehead or the eyes.

The treatment is not just for men and women in their middle years, but also younger patients who want to maintain their youthfullness.

The Best Treatments for Body Issues

Liposuction is sometimes the only treatment to really contour our curves and get rid of bulges, but the newest non-invasive procedures can help re-contour the body. Breshers says Coolsculpting , Vaser Shape and Endermologie all work on patients with a small amount of pinchable fat. “However they do come with a price tag and that limits a lot of patients from having it done.”

How to know if you’re a Candidate

One of the most important parts of Beverly’s job other than delivering great results to her patients is advising them along the way. “I think most people come in and have some beauty already and I like for them to identify what they think is their best feature and then tell me what is the one thing that bothers them the most when they look in the mirror.”

“I think it’s a group effort to make sure we’re taking care of the patient in a safe harbor and not putting them in any harms way. That’s our job.”
