Why Women Want an Athletic Look in Plastic Surgery

Times change and so do trends, even when it comes to beauty. The en vogue look of today is toned, trim, and natural. Women don’t want to look like they’ve had plastic surgery. A natural result is what women want, and that’s achievable with the help of a board certified plastic surgeon.

Athletic is Feminine

It’s the new ideal in femininity. Experts say many women today want to look toned and trim and not pulled in ‘unnatural’ ways. “People do not want to look too done,” says Dr. Jason Pozner, a board certified plastic surgeon in Boca Raton, Florida. As a veteran in plastic surgery, Pozner has experienced shifts in trends throughout the years. He says women today want a leaner look head to toe with no hint that anything has been done. “They want a natural and lean look,” he continues. “They want an athletic look and they don’t want a friend to say that you had ‘X’ done.”

Breast implants remain very popular, but the look – or size – is changing. “A few years back it was a chesty look, but now…women don’t want to be as big,” says Dr. Richard Restifo, a board certified plastic surgeon in Orange, Connecticut. “I think that’s great.” Restifo says many people are scaling back on the size of breast implants for a multitude of reasons. Younger women may still want a larger size, but women who are a bit older, perhaps in their menopausal years, are downsizing, or even getting implants removed.

“I think it’s great that they are thinking about the appropriate size,” shares Restifo. This is a key point, because selecting the right implant can make all the difference in whether or not a result will last, and whether a patient may have a higher chance of complications.

Women Want a ‘Six Pack’

Restifo indicates that women want to complete the athletic look with a rock solid midsection. There’s a way to achieve that look using body contouring. “In body contouring, there is something called abdominal etching, which is one way to create a six-pack,” said Restifo. The cutting edge technique suctions fat from specific parts of the abdominal area to reveal natural lines. In the past, women thought the procedure was considered ‘too manly’ and looked too cut. “It used to be that six packs were thought to have a hard look and it wasn’t attractive on a woman. I don’t think women look at it like that any longer. Women love this look; it’s very athletic,” said Restifo.

The athletic look is what is in now, but certainly looks change. It’s all about finding the right fit for you and what makes you feel good. That look will never go out of style.
