No Spin Live Episode 53 – Breast Veins and the Truth in Advertising

No Spin Live host Dr. William P. Adams Jr. welcomes board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Jason Pozner of Boca Raton, Dr. Kristi Hustak of Houston, and Dr. Dan Del Vecchio of Boston to discuss the latest in plastic surgery news.

In this episode, the experts discuss an issue patients find with their breasts being too “veiny.” This concern surrounds visible veins beneath the surface of the breasts, oftentimes a result of the addition of an implant beneath the tissue. Drs. Pozner and Hustak help their patients attempt treatment for this issue by utilizing either fat grafting, possibly skin laser treatments, or even the fillers used in the face.

Additionally, the surgeons discuss one of the biggest problems with plastic surgery, and that’s advertising. There is a small but seemingly never-ending stream of news stories relating an event where a patient went to someone untrained in the art and technique of plastic surgery, to the detriment of their health. These stories usually end with a major complication for the patient (requiring even more surgery and hospital time – and more money) but sometimes it ends with patient death on the operating table. Advertising unfortunately can sell something that isn’t true, and many would-be patients see a lower price and jump, believing the advertising in that the practitioner is fully trained. The problem is many are not, which is directly in confrontation to board certified plastic surgeons who spend roughly a decade learning, practicing, and perfecting their craft before offering services to patients.

Most importantly, plastic surgeons are still physicians. This means that while their focus is certainly on attaining the goals of their patients, the safety of their patients is paramount. The panel reaffirms this critical aspect of their careers and what’s entrusted them, and more, on the latest episode of No Spin Live.
