Mommies, We’ve Got This!

Mommies, We’ve Got This!

A fear that’s common among most new moms are all the changes your body goes through with pregnancy. Many times all the shifts in your body can’t be fixed with diet and exercise alone.  But there’s good news for all the mom’s out there wanting to get their pre-pregnancy body back. There’s never been a better time to consider all the things a skilled plastic surgeon can offer. From surgical to non-surgical procedures, there’s an explosion of  new techniques and technologies.  “Just as digital technology and social media evolves, so does everything within plastic surgery and medicine,” says Camille Cash, MD.

As a board certified plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas, Dr. Cash is also a mother of three who enjoys lifting the spirits of women who may need her artistic skills.

“Thousands of different types of implants are offered to help shape and mold the breast. And that’s just one example. The tools we have are rapidly expanding,” says Dr. Cash. “One of the newer trends utilizing the advances in technology is the “mommy makeover.”

1Mommy Makeover

By using a combination of surgical and nonsurgical procedures, along with diet, exercise and wellness, cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Cash are able to help women restore their bodies after babies!

“There are areas of the body that take an extra beating during pregnancy and post pregnancy,” says Cash, “Oftentimes women are coming in looking for improvements.”

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical, and sometimes non-surgical procedures that gives mothers the ability to achieve a full makeover with just a single recovery period. Tackling these procedures at the same time means that patients don’t have to take more time off work or away from family.

Breast augmentation helps moms have fuller breasts. After pregnancy and nursing, breasts may become smaller and a breast augmentation can restore fullness. A breast lift can restore the breasts to their pre-pregnancy position. In combination with a breast augmentation, this procedure can achieve a full breast makeover.

Breast reduction provides a variety of benefits. If breasts are larger after pregnancy, patients may be experiencing neck, upper back and shoulder pain, and women can even develop rashes between their breasts or grooves on their shoulders from bra straps. Breast reduction can bring relief – “one less thing to worry about in your hectic schedule,” says Cash.

A tummy tuck is ideal for tightening stretched-out abdominal muscles and removing excess skin and fat on the belly. A tummy tuck is usually the keystone procedure in a mommy makeover, she says.

Finally, liposuction is a great way to touch up areas “where the baby weight refuses to disappear,” says Cash. Liposuction in combination with a tummy tuck can also help slim a patient’s waistline, giving her a fit and youthful appearance.

Preparing For Makeover

There is no perfect formula for a mommy makeover, she says. Instead, a surgeon should help each patient choose the specific procedures that are right for her, and regardless of the surgeries each patient selects, Cash says, surgeons should spend lots of time reviewing how patients can prepare, as well as exactly what they can expect in the days, weeks, and months following a “mommy makeover.”

“In my practice, we try to treat the patient as a whole,” says Cash. “That may mean everything from non-invasive procedures to diet, exercise and some degree of nutrition and wellness. Only then are you’re going to get the best surgical results.”
