Lee Thornton, MD

Lee Thornton MD, a native Mississippian, was born into a medical family in Meridian. Dr. Thornton is a graduate of Meridian High School. After receiving a full academic college scholarship, he completed his undergraduate studies with Honors at Ole Miss and Millsaps College. Following a year as laboratory instructor for the Department of Biology at Millsaps, he entered medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans.

During his 4 years in New Orleans,  Dr. Thornton completed his MD degree as well as a dual Masters Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH&TM), graduating in the top of his class in both schools. He next moved to Denver, Colorado in order to undertake an internship in Community Medicine at University of Colorado Hospitals.

Following his internship he was accepted into one of the most competitive training programs in the country for General Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Parkland Hospital), where he completed five years of training and became board certified in General Surgery. Next, he was accepted into one of the most renowned and sought after positions in Plastic Surgery training worldwide at Emory University in Atlanta. After completing his Plastic Surgery training at Emory, he was  selected to do an additional fellowship in Cosmetic and Oculoplastic Surgery at Paces Plastic Surgery Center in Atlanta.

He had never considered returning to his hometown of Meridian, however with a two year old daughter, Kinsey, and identical twins, Hannah and Madi on the way, he and his wife Michelle thought it would be nice to be around family and out of the busy city life as the family grew. Choosing to leave behind wonderful practice opportunities in several larger cities they decided to move to his hometown to establish Meridian Plastic Surgery and offer these services for the first time to this vibrant medical community.

Since arriving in 1998, Dr. Thornton has built one of the busiest plastic surgery practices in the country. While keeping a relatively low profile locally, a high percentage of his patients come to Meridian from out of state to seek his services. He spends a good amount of his time correcting poor outcomes from previous cosmetic and reconstructive surgery referred to him from elsewhere, many from other physicians and surgeons. His practice focuses primarily on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and body.

Dr Thornton is  board certified in both General and Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is a member of the Mississippi State Medical Society, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). He has served on the International Committee for ASAPS and was selected to be one the Medical Advisory Board Members for The Plastic Surgery Channel. He and Michelle live on the family farm just outside of Meridian and have added their fourth child, Lachlan, to the family.
