The Advancement of PRP and Microneedling

The Advancement of PRP and Microneedling

Every year leaves behind new advancements in ever field, including plastic surgery. New techniques and technologies are either discovered or honed, while some are actually found to be less than they were previously thought and head for the dustbin. For board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Dustin Reid of Austin, Texas and Dr. Steven Camp of Fort Worth, Texas, 2019 in review revealed two strong “additions” that continue to show increasingly excellent results: platelet-rich plasm and microneedling. Interestingly enough, the best results come when they are used together.

The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and microneedling devices are neither brand new technologies, nor are they groundbreaking science. The knowledge of powerful growth factors found in PRP isn’t necessarily, but how PRP is prepared and injected became more refined in 2019. Likewise, microneedling is an ancient concept (it’s more or less the same process when a lawn is aerated), yet specific advancements in the needle sizing and amounts, and, more importantly, the advancement of energy-based microneedling devices, has allowed for an incredible set of results.

On the latest PSC Uncut, Drs. Reid and Camp discuss their personal success with PRP and microneedling and how, when used together, their individual abilities are multiplied.
